MP Travel Takes on Liverpool to Runcorn X1 Service Under Contract

From Monday 19th October 2020, Arriva's X1 service that operates between Halton Hospital in Runcorn and Liverpool city centre and vice versa will be operated by MP Travel under contract from Arriva North West.

The existing limited stop timetable, which operates every 40 minutes, will be unchanged and all Arriva and Merseytravel tickets will be accepted as normal, but different buses will be running the service. Live tracking will not be available for service X1 on the Arriva UK Bus app.

The X1 was dropped by Arriva at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown, and its late reintroduction left some passengers fearing it might never return. Thankfully for local passengers, the service will continue to operate under contract to MP Travel of Warrington.

The X1 bus service is viewed as essential as passengers can travel from Runcorn new town to Liverpool city centre in just 55 minutes, and from High Street to the city in just 40 minutes, considerably shorter journey times than the alternatives.

Back in 2015, Arriva upgraded the status of the X1 service to its then, up and coming, premium Sapphire brand. This saw Arriva refurbish five 12-plate Wrightbus Pulsar 2 bodied VDL SB200s with attractive onboard facilities, including free WiFi, spacious legroom with e-leather covered seating as well as USB charging points and audio-visual displays.

As of Monday the 19th October, MP Travel will provide modern, environmentally friendly and low floor vehicles with ample space on board to aid current social distancing measures.

See the or websites for the full timetable.

  1. Download the Merseytravel X1 timetable, as you only get part of timetable on Arriva app.
